On 14 May, the Night of Museums, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima welcomed visitors and cast her vote for one of the top five logo designs for the 21 August celebrations.

As part of the Night of Museums, Āboltiņa explained about the work of the MPs in the plenary sittings and posed for pictures with the visitors. She also cast her vote for one of top the five logo designs for the 21 August celebrations.
“This year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of our state’s de facto independence. It took more than a year to establish de facto independence after the historic day of 4 May, when the Supreme Council voted for Latvia’s independence. 21 August 1991 was a significant turning point in the history of our state,“ said the Speaker on the Night of Museums adding that everyone is invited to cast their votes for their favourite logo design.
The second stage of the logo design contest in honour of the 21 August celebrations was held in the Voting Room of the Saeima, where five of the best designs that have been shortlisted from almost 100 sketches submitted by Latvian children and youths were displayed for public viewing and voting.
On the Night of Museums, each visitor of the Saeima received a token that could be used to cast a vote for one of the logos displayed in the Voting Room.
The design with the most votes will become the official logo for the ceremonial events in honour of 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitutional Law on the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia. The logos designed by Latvian children and youths can be viewed on the website www.21augusts.lv devoted to the events of 21 August.
Visitors had an opportunity to view the interior of the main building of the Saeima, to attend several exhibitions dedicated to the Saeima’s cooperation with parliaments of neighbouring countries and to vote for one of the proposed logo designs for the 21 August celebrations.
